On March 31, at the 6th International Conference on Innovation and Emerging Industry Development co-sponsored by the Chinese Academy of Engineering, the Shanghai Municipal People's Government, and the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the Chinese Academy of Engineering released the results of a major consulting project "China's Carbon Reaching Peak Carbon Neutrality".
The achievement was jointly completed by more than 40 academicians, more than 300 experts, and dozens of units organized by the Chinese Academy of Engineering, focusing on industrial structure, energy, power, industry, construction, transportation, carbon removal, etc.
Du Xiangwan, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and deputy leader of the project, said: "To achieve the two goals of carbon peaking and carbon neutrality, a series of technological advancements must be achieved in various fields such as industry, transportation, construction, and electricity
The report "China's Carbon Neutrality Strategy and Path to Peak Carbon" completed by the project team pointed out that achieving carbon neutrality is the only way to promote high-quality economic and social development in China, but it also faces many challenges
On this basis, the report proposes seven paths to achieve carbon peaking and carbon neutrality by improving the quality and efficiency of economic development, creating a clean, low-carbon, safe and efficient energy system, and accelerating the construction of a new power system with new energy as the mainstay
In order to better solve the problems faced in the process of achieving carbon peaking and carbon neutrality, the report also puts forward three suggestions.
