News from this newspaper (reporter Yang Xiaojing) At the "2021 China Nutrition and Health Industry Leaders Summit" held on December 29, 2021, the "Chinese Nutrition Society Dietary Fiber Expert Consensus" (hereinafter referred to as "Dietary Fiber Expert Consensus"" was released, and Interpreted by experts
The health benefits of dietary fiber have long been widely accepted by the scientific community and society
At the meeting, the Institute of Nutrition and Health of the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention told researcher Cedar that the release of the "Expert Consensus on Dietary Fiber" will be the revision of the dietary fiber part of the "Dietary Reference Intakes (DRIs) for Chinese Residents" and related issues.
According to the definition of dietary fiber, the "Expert Consensus on Dietary Fiber" has conducted a scientific evidence level evaluation of 21 carbohydrate polymers to form the first recommended list of new dietary fiber sources
The main results of the consensus are summarized as follows: Based on China's "Basic Terminology of Food Nutrients" (GB/Z21922-2008) and the background of domestic and foreign progress, the definition of dietary fiber is updated to: naturally occurring in plants, extracted from plants Or directly synthesized polymers with a degree of polymerization of ≥3, edible, carbohydrates that cannot be digested and absorbed by the small intestine of the human body, and have health significance to the human body
The consensus specifically pointed out that dietary fiber includes the following sources: naturally occurring in plants; obtained from plants by physical, chemical, and enzymatic methods; obtained by synthesis
After scientific evidence rating and expert discussion, it is believed that the above 10 extracted or synthesized substances meet the requirements of the definition of dietary fiber, have healthy functions, and can be used as a supplementary source of dietary fiber
The Expert Consensus on Dietary Fiber encourages the intake of dietary fiber naturally present in plants through vegetable, fruit, nuts, whole grains and other plant foods as the main source of dietary fiber
The new dietary fibers recommended in this review are based on current scientific evidence
