Recently, Clariant announced that it has been awarded a contract by Xinpu Chemicals (Taixing) Co.
, Ltd.
to supply CATOFIN catalysts and heating materials (HGM) for its new 900,000-ton-per-year propane dehydrogenation (PDH) plant project
.
The project is the result of a collaboration between Clariant and its long-term process technology partner Lummus
.
Since 2017, CATOFIN has been adopted by 27 new projects around the world, adding more than 18 million tons of new propylene capacity per year
.
Xinpu Chemicals (Taixing) Co.
, Ltd.
was established in 1995 and is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Singapore Xinpu Chemicals
.
The new propane dehydrogenation unit project is located in Taixing City, Jiangsu Province, and is scheduled to be officially put into operation in 2023
.
Kevin Chan, Vice President of Clariant Catalysts Greater China, said:
Kevin Chan, Vice President of Clariant Catalysts Greater China, said:We are honored to have been selected by Xinpu Chemical for its pioneering new project
.
With continuous catalyst technology innovation and continuous advancements in Lumms process technology, CATOFIN technology has become one of the most productive and reliable solutions on the market
.
CATOFIN technology is a very reliable, high-yield dehydrogenation technology for light hydrocarbons
.
The process can be operated at the optimum reactor pressure and temperature to achieve maximum conversion and selectivity of propane to propylene while reducing capital and operating costs
.
The selectivity and yield of production units can be further improved by using Clariant's heat generating materials (HGMs), which help this innovative metal oxide generate heat and drive dehydrogenation reactions
.
This not only increases production and reduces energy consumption, but also reduces emissions
.
Compared to other technologies, CATOFIN, due to its extremely high reliability and production efficiency, results in an excellent annual output
.
With numerous in-service installations around the world, customers are able to operate at or above 110% of their design capacity, achieve their expected production targets, and achieve a very high return on investment
.
At the same time, in order to better serve and support customers in the booming petrochemical industry in China, Clariant is building a new high-tech production base in Jiaxing, Zhejiang, mainly producing CATOFIN series catalysts.
The plant is expected to be put into operation by the end of 2021
.
Jiaxing CATOFIN Catalyst Factory
The new site will be primarily responsible for the production of CATOFIN catalysts for the propane dehydrogenation process, which can be used to produce olefin products including propylene
.
Upon completion, the production base will become Clariant's third catalyst plant in China
.
It will enhance the existing catalyst operating network, which also includes a joint venture plant with North Huajin Group in Panjin, and Clariant's wholly-owned plant in Jinshan, Shanghai
.
