Clariant and Loums win the bid for India's first PDH project
On October 22, Clariant's Catalysts business unit and its process partner Lummus Technology won a major contract in India to continue expanding their presence
in the PDH market.
GAIL India Ltd.
has decided to build India's first PDH plant
using the CATOFIN process of Loums technology and Clariant's custom catalysts.
The 500,000-tonne-per-year propane dehydrogenation production facility is located in Usar, Maharashtra, and is integrated with
downstream polypropylene (PP) plants.
The $1.
2 billion PDH-PP project is expected to begin operations
in 2024.
The CATOFIN process is capable of operating at the optimum reactor pressure and temperature to achieve maximum conversion and selectivity from propane to propylene while reducing investment and operating costs
.
Selectivity and throughput of production plants can be further increased by using Clariant's Heating Materials (HGMs), innovative metal oxides that generate heat and drive dehydrogenation reactions
.
With its high reliability and productivity, CATOFIN delivers better annual output
than other technologies.
These performance advantages are also the main reasons why
GAIL (India) Ltd chose CATOFIN technology and catalysts after an international tendering process.
