Worley to begin EPC work for Avantium bioplastics facility

Avantium's plans for the construction of the FDCA bioplastics plant in Delfzijl, the Netherlands, have taken another step forwa.

Plant-based furandicarboxylic acid (FDCA) is a key component of many chemicals and plastics, such as polyvinyl furanoate (PEF), a fully recyclable plast.

In January 2021, Worley announced a strategic partnership with Avantium to acquire a stake in Avantium in exchange for an equity investment of 10 million euros and to establish a risk sharing mechanism for the EPC phase of the FDCA pla.

Following the recent positive final investment decision, Worley signed a technology partnership agreement with Avantium and will now provide EPC services to develop the facili.

The work will be carried out from Worley's offices in the Netherlands and Belgium, supported by their Global Integrated Delivery (GID) team in Ind.
