French renewable energy company Voltalia has begun construction of a 32MW solar project
.
It is understood that the project is the first solar power plant in Africa, located in the Ben Ban Solar Park
in the Aswan region of Egypt.
The project has a 25-year power purchase agreement
with the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company (EETC), a state-owned utility.
Commissioning is scheduled for the second half of 2019
.
It is understood that the project has a capacity of 1.
8 GW, and the solar photovoltaic complex is also one of the
largest solar parks in the world.
The project will be equipped with 93,150 Suntech PV panels
with a capacity of 345Wp that are not yet installed on single-axis trackers.
The project is expected to employ about 150 workers
at the peak of construction activity.
In addition, Voltalia plans to develop an 800MW solar portfolio
in Egypt over the next 5 to 8 years.
