Vodafone Greece said it plans to launch commercial 5G services
in the first quarter of next year.
It is reported that the Greek government will launch the 5G spectrum auction
on December 21 this year.
Haris Broumidis, CEO of Vodafone Greece, said the service will initially be introduced in major cities such as Athens and Thessaloniki before being extended to other regions
.
Rivals Cellcos Cosmote and Wind are also expected to launch 5G
in the first quarter of 2021.
In mid-September, Konstantinos Maselos, chairman of Greece's National Telecommunications and Postal Commission (Ethniki Epitropi Tilepikoinonion kai Tachydromeion (EETT), also confirmed: "We have completed two rounds of consultations on 5G network frequency auctions and are preparing to proceed
.
" We will begin spectrum auctions
within our committed timeline (by the end of 2020).

Greece last week began accepting applications for its spectrum auctions in the 700MHz, 2GHz, 3.
4GHz-3.
8GHz and 26GHz bands, which have a combined starting price of 367.
