Versas today announced that it will support the 159 MW Parc Eolien Taiba N'Diaya in Senegal's first large-scale practical wind energy project and the largest wind energy project in West Africa
.
The wind farm will expand the country's power generation capacity by 15%, support the development of affordable renewable energy, and diversify Senegal's energy mix with positive social and economic impacts
for nearby communities.
It is understood that the EPC contract for the project was signed by Parc Eolien Taiba N'Diaye, a company controlled by Lekela, an experienced renewable energy company that has developed 1.
3 GW of wind and solar projects in Africa, partly owned
by French developers.
Sarreole has been involved in the project from the
very beginning.
The order includes the supply, transportation, installation and commissioning of 46 V126-3.
45 MW turbines, as well as an Active Output Management 5000 (AOM 5000) service agreement
for wind farm operation and maintenance over the next 20 years.
Currently, Senegal's energy is largely dependent on expensive imported fossil fuels
.
By relying on renewable energy, Senegal will be able to generate clean, reliable and price-competitive energy to meet the rapidly expanding local grid
.
"This is a very special order for us, because the project we offer together with Lekela represents 20% of the country's energy mix and will have a positive impact
on Senegal.
”
Mr.
Chris Ford, Chief Operating Officer of Lekela, said: "This is an important milestone
for Senegal and Lecla.
As the country's first utility-scale wind project, Taiba N'Diaye is an important part of
Senegal's clean energy strategy.
The project will have an impact
that will last for generations.
