The city of Vancouver voted on November 27 to ban the use of plastic straws and bags from April next year, becoming the first major Canadian city to impose such a broad ban
.
According to a Reuters report on November 28, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced in June this year that the government plans to ban the use of certain single-use plastic products such as straws, bags and cutlery by early 2021
.
Vancouver says plastic bags and plastic straws each account for 3 per cent of litter on its beaches
.
The report said that plastic straws will be banned from April 22, 2020, and plastic bags (including those made of degradable materials) will be banned from January 1, 2021
