Recently, SkyPower has announced approximately $1.
3 billion in foreign direct investment in Uzbekistan to build 1,000 MW of solar power capacity
across the country.
The project will bring the largest foreign direct investment in
the history of Uzbekistan.
Uzbekistan and SkyPower also signed the country's first electricity purchase agreement in its history, under which the government will buy electricity
from international and private companies.
The President of Uzbekistan signed a decree signifying the Government's full support for the project and the guarantee of sovereignty
.
SkyPower will be the first independent power producer in Uzbekistan's history, working closely
with state-owned utility Uzbekenergo.
This project is also the first public-private partnership
between Uzbekistan and a truly North American company.
"Nurturing Canada's clean technology and renewable energy sector and encouraging the export of locally developed ideas and solutions that benefit the world is a top priority for our government, and I am pleased to see that industry leaders like SkyPower Global can help us achieve this goal, and this historic partnership with UzbekEnergo and the Government of Uzbekistan will drive growth in the region," said the Minister of International Trade of the Government of Canada.
