The Uzbek government has unveiled two new solar project plans for the deployment of 1GW of solar power capacity
.
It is reported that the two solar projects have also received financing support
from the Asian Development Bank.
The Uzbek Energy Ministry said last Thursday that the country will hold a tender early next year for the second phase of the Sheraban project, which will add 300 MW
to the existing plan in Sherabad, Surkhandarya region.
The final round of bidding for Sheraban Phase I is currently underway, with bids to begin on March 15, 2021, with a minimum size of 200 MW
.
The second phase of the photovoltaic (PV) park will be installed near Sherabad Phase I and connected by a 52km transmission line that will be connected to the 220 kV substation
in Surkhan.
The capacity of the plant will be between 150 MW and 300 MW, depending on the outcome
of the first phase of the tender.
The total installed capacity of the two phases will reach 500 MW.
Separately, Uzbekistan will launch a 500 MW solar project, which will be the third solar PPPs project
in Uzbekistan.
The project, which will be launched in the first quarter of next year, will be carried out in three phases and will be tendered by private partners under the Design, Build, Finance, Operate, Maintenance (DBFOM) model, which also includes energy storage batteries
.
Energy Minister Alisher Sultanov said the project would start
in February next year.
Uzbekistan aims to increase its share of installed renewable energy capacity to 5 GW
within the next 10 years.
With the assistance of the World Bank's International Finance Corporation (IFC), it is conducting a series of tenders that will add 1 GW of solar PV capacity
