A few days ago, Lebanese President Michel Aoun said that Lebanon is using diplomacy to counter Israel's offshore energy tender
in disputed territory with maritime boundaries.
Using diplomacy Lebanon against Israeli offshore energy tenders
Earlier, Israel called Lebanon's first offshore oil and gas exploration tender "very provocative" and said it was wrong
for international companies to participate.
Lebanon, located in the Levant Basin in the eastern Mediterranean, has discovered a number of large subsea gas fields since 2009, including an energy zone
in Israeli waters near the Lebanese border.
After meeting with Prime Minister Saad Hariri, Aoun quoted Hariri in a tweet as saying Lebanon was facing large-scale aggression
linked to Lebanon's oil wealth.
Aoun said he and parliament speaker Nabi Berry had agreed to meet to discuss steps to deal with "repeated Israeli threats" and called on Berry to put aside their political factional tensions for the time being
.
Earlier, the political confrontation
was exacerbated by a series of comments about Berry by Ori's son-in-law, Foreign Secretary Gethran Basil.
This threatens to ignite factional tensions in Lebanon ahead of elections planned in May and paralyze the government
