On December 15, the groundbreaking ceremony of Clariant's new high-performance surfactant project and high-performance halogen-free flame retardant new material expansion project was held
in Daya Bay, Huizhou, Guangdong.
Clariant said the project will invest CHF 80 million and will be completed
by the end of 2024.
After successfully obtaining the GMP certificate for drugs, Clariant's Daya Bay production site has become the first company in China to obtain polyethylene glycol (PolyglykolTM
3350) certified API manufacturer
.
The site will also serve as a hub for the new Clariant's global healthcare business, supplying high-quality ingredients
for healthcare medicines.

Clariant will also expand its existing capacity in ethylene oxide and its broad portfolio of chemicals in Daya Bay to help customers advance their environmental goals and create differentiated, more sustainable solutions to meet industry needs
with faster production and more sustainable ingredients, said Miao Zhigang, Global Vice President, Industrial Applications Business Unit, Clariant Care Chemicals.
Knight Wan Wan, Global President of Clariant Care Chemicals, added: "Daya Bay is home
to Clariant's first ethoxy plant in Asia.
With these investments, we will take advantage of the proximity of the plant to our main manufacturing base and upgrade it to a multi-purpose plant/ethylene oxide derivatives production base
.
This underscores our commitment to supporting our customers' success
with more indigenous innovative chemistry.
”
It is understood that Clariant's Care Chemicals business unit has made a series of investments
in Daya Bay before investing in strengthening ethoxy chemical plants in China.
In October 2022, Clariant announced that it will add a second line to its halogen-free flame retardant additive plant, the first of which is currently under construction and scheduled to be operational
by mid-2023.
