Turkey will launch 74 mini-tenders
for solar projects in its Renewable Energy Zone (YEKA) over the next two months, according to local media.
Earlier this month, Turkey's Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, Fatih Donmez, said the tenders were aimed at attracting offers
from SMEs, especially those engaged in the solar sector.
Donmez said public procurement will cover photovoltaic (PV) plants with a total installed capacity of 1,000 megawatts and spread across 36 regions of the country
.
"Tenders will be an important factor in
changing the investment culture and investor image.
"
The YEKA tender is part of Turkey's goal to meet 65% of
its domestic and renewable energy needs by 2023.
The data shows that the country's installed solar capacity has increased from 40 MW in 2014 to 6,630 MW currently, and solar energy now accounts for 7% of the country's total installed capacity and 4%
of electricity generation.
