Materials supplier Trinseo has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Heathland BV, a post-consumer (PCR) and post-industrial (PIR) plastic waste collector and recycler headquartered in Utrecht, The Netherlands
.
The acquisition will allow Trinseo to provide comprehensive recycling technologies and a steady supply of plastic waste for use as feedstock
.
Heathland specializes in transforming PCR and PIR polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA), polycarbonate (PC), acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (ABS), polystyrene (PS) and its collections throughout Europe Other thermoplastic waste
.
The company uses mechanical and chemical recycling processes to dispose of plastic waste
.
Heathland is involved in several prominent EU projects, including MMAtwo and REVOLUTION, which are funded by the European Commission's Horizon 2020 programme
.
MMAtwo aims to develop new, fast-growing PMMA recycling value chains through monomer-level depolymerization and recycling, while REVOLUTION works to advance the use of recycled materials in electric vehicles
.
Trinseo said the acquisition is an important milestone in its transformation into a provider of specialty materials and sustainable solutions
.
The agreement adds that it will help meet market demand by increasing plastic waste collection operations and strengthening the continued development of plastic recycling technologies to ensure a reliable source of recycled raw materials
.
