Global materials company Trinseo has announced the launch of two sustainable advantage material grades specifically for footwear and fashion
.
These new materials are in line with Trinseo's 2030 sustainability goal that 40% of its products will have sustainable benefits
.
Trinseo has developed two sustainable thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) series - APILON™ 52 BIO TL and TNE, tailored for sustainable synthetic leather, produced by coagulation and extrusion calendering processes, respectively
.
These materials contain up to 50% bio-based content, providing luxury brands with alternative bio-textiles to animal and synthetic leather for applications such as footwear and fashion apparel and accessories
.
In addition to physical and mechanical properties similar to traditional alternatives made of PVC and PU, these bio-grade products also provide a soft touch similar to natural leather
.
"Our TPU solutions for footwear and apparel have a long history of successfully meeting the highest standards for aesthetics, durability and most importantly sustainability.
APILON™ 52 BIO TL and TNE series provide high quality for footwear and apparel applications and sustainable solutions
.
As the footwear and apparel industry evolves, we aspire to be part of the move towards a more sustainable future,
” said Aldo Zanetti, Head of Global Footwear, Medical and Personal Care Markets
.
These two series are designed according to market demands
.
These sustainable TPUs are GMO-free and contain approximately 50% bio-based ingredients
.
Trinseo's new sustainable material combines sustainability, durability, softness, flexibility and high quality, while also being characterized by ease of processing
.
