Toyochem, a member of Japan's Toyo Ink Group, has developed a new line of biodegradable pressure-sensitive adhesives (PSA)
.
In recent years, there has been a growing interest in reducing plastic waste, especially in developing biodegradable materials that can reduce oil use and its negative impact on the environment
.
In response to this problem, researchers at Toyochem in Japan have developed a high-performance biodegradable pressure-sensitive adhesive based on an innovative biodegradable polymer design
.
After use, the sticky waste can be digested by soil microbes and converted over time into substances such as carbon dioxide, water, nitrogen and methane gases, helping to reduce landfill and further closing the cycle of plastic waste
.
In addition, the new pressure-sensitive adhesive system showed a biodegradation rate of 60% or higher after 60 days
.
The biodegradability of the new Cyabine PSA has been confirmed under controlled composting conditions specified by the Japanese Standards Association JIS K 6953-1 (equivalent to the international standard ISO 14855-1)
