Materials supplier TotalEnergies and Tier 1 supplier Plastic Omnium have signed a strategic partnership to design and develop a new plastic material made from recycled PP that meets the demanding aesthetic and safety standards of the automotive industry
    .

TotalEnergies and Plastic Omnium will pool their innovation and engineering resources to design new types of recyclable materials that improve performance and better protect the environment
    .
The new materials, which reportedly contain 20-100% recycled material from industrial and household waste streams, will reduce carbon dioxide impacts by up to six times compared to virgin materials

    .

For example, the use of plastics in car bodies plays a key role in reducing carbon emissions from the automotive industry
    .
It improves aerodynamics and reduces the overall weight of the vehicle, thereby helping to reduce the fuel usage of internal combustion engines and increasing the autonomy of electric vehicles

    .

Valérie Goff, Senior Vice President, Polymers, TotalEnergies, said: "The partnership with Plastic Omnium is a great example of innovation to develop better, more environmentally friendly recycled plastic materials to help our OEM and automaker customers reduce their carbon footprint
    .
This project will also help meet the challenges of a circular economy and achieve our goal of producing 30% of recycled and renewable polymers by 2030.

Stéphane Noël, President and CEO of Plastic Omnium Intelligent Exterior Systems, added: “As manufacturers, recycling plastic materials is a challenge for us and an important issue for our planet
    .
Good collection and greener solutions paves the way, reflecting the carbon neutrality goals of our customers and suppliers

    .
This is absolutely critical for strategic partners
