On March 28, Toray Japan announced that, regarding the case first notified on January 31, 2022, some resin products were improperly identified as having obtained UL LLC (hereinafter referred to as "UL")
.
Following reporting to UL, it has been decided to withdraw UL certification for certain resin products detailed below effective March 31, 2022
.
Of the products whose certification has been withdrawn, Toray is currently negotiating with UL for those products that will continue to be sold as UL-certified products to re-apply for registration and obtain certification under a new product name
.

On January 31, 2022, Japanese chemical giant Toray Industries announced that it admitted to falsifying samples of some of its resin products to illegally obtain UL certification, an act that dates back at least 10 years

Resin samples for testing were made at its factories in Nagoya and Chiba prefectures near Tokyo in order to pass UL's four-year product spot checks

However, the products they actually sell commercially are not the samples used in the tests

The products, which did not meet internationally accepted flame retardant standards, were sold to about 80 companies
