During the Spring Festival, most people will have to go to each other, but it is unimaginable that the harm this will cause to the body is unimaginable
According to reports, alcohol consumption among Chinese men has been increasing in recent decades, and Chinese men are also a major contributor to the overall cancer burden
In this large-scale study, researchers examined DNA samples from 150,000 participants (about 60,000 men and 90,000 women) aged 41-63 in the China Kadoorie Biobank (CKB) and measured The frequencies of low alcohol tolerance alleles of ALDH2 and ADH1B were then combined with drinking habits questionnaires provided by participants at recruitment and at subsequent follow-up visits
Since the proportion of female drinkers in China is only 2%, the main research object is focused on male participants
In the male population, the low alcohol tolerance allele was strongly associated with a reduction in drinking frequency and average alcohol intake
Study co-corresponding author Dr Peiqi Lin, lead researcher at the University of Oxford's Centre for Population Health, said: "These findings suggest that alcohol directly contributes to several cancers and that in people with genetically low alcohol tolerance who are unable to metabolize alcohol normally, these risks may be will increase further
