On April 13, the world's first 500 kV AC polyethylene submarine cable independently developed by China passed factory tests in Changshu, Jiangsu Province, and will be the first to be laid in the Zhoushan 500 kV network power transmission and transformation project
    .

Fu Dahong, senior engineer of Zhejiang Electric Power Construction Department of State Grid, said that this submarine cable is the first cable in the world to use cross-linked polyethylene as an insulating material in the world's 500 kV submarine cable, which is more reliable and environmentally friendly than the original oil-paper insulation performance, and is completely independently developed and manufactured
    by China.
In the test, the cable withstood a voltage equivalent to twice the normal operation, lasted 60 minutes, and the indicators were qualified
    .

It is reported that in order to develop this submarine cable, State Grid Zhejiang Electric Power mobilized the technical strength of the province, and joined forces with scientific research institutions such as China Electric Power Research Institute, State Grid Electric Power Research Institute, Xi'an Jiaotong University, Harbin Institute of Technology, and four top domestic cable factories to form a research and development team to carry out technical research
    .
After a year of unremitting efforts, samples were successfully developed, and then the relevant cable factories organized production
    according to the samples.

In each key link of the submarine cable production process, State Grid Zhejiang Electric Power has organized capable experts for technical guidance and supervision, and also cooperated with experimental manufacturing enterprises to develop the world's largest capacity series resonant device, which solves the problem
that the test equipment cannot meet the needs of production and engineering construction.
In order to ensure the quality of submarine cables, State Grid Zhejiang Electric Power strengthened supervision and management, and the State Grid Zhejiang Materials Company took five months to compile and complete the guidelines for the supervision of 500 kV cross-linked polyethylene submarine cables, and passed the review of the State Grid Corporation, filling the gap
    of this standard in China.
