Recently, the World Bank has committed $100 million to build a 400MW solar project
in Pakistan's Sindh province.
The local government said it detailed its Sindh Solar Energy Initiative (SSEP), which had been hoping for World Bank funding
since March.
The World Bank aims to support this large-scale solar deployment, starting with the initial 50MW power plant, while also partially providing grants to private companies to install solar home systems
for 200,000 homes.
In the same announcement, the World Bank also provided $460.
6 million for the Khyber Strait Passage Economic Corridor project to boost trade
between Pakistan, Afghanistan and Central Asia by supporting private sector investment and reducing transportation time and costs.
This will include improving transport infrastructure and border crossings
.
"These projects will address the energy needs of Sindh province by producing solar power, supporting trade between Pakistan and Afghanistan through regional connectivity and private sector development along the Khyber Pass corridor
," said the World Bank's regional head for Pakistan.
