According to the Economic Times, the World Bank praised India's success in a renewable energy auction that created record low solar prices
.
The World Bank said that in the eight years leading up to 2017, the number of countries with strong sustainable energy policy frameworks more than tripled from 17 to 59, and since 2010, many of the world's largest energy-consuming countries have significantly improved renewable energy regulations, and the World Bank reports the 2018 Sustainable Energy Regulation Indicators report showing global progress
in sustainable energy policies.
The report was released
during the 24th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.
Progress in energy efficiency has been even more pronounced, with the proportion of countries with advanced policy frameworks increasing more than
tenfold between 2010 and 2017.
In populous countries, 75% had the policies and regulations
needed to expand energy use in place by 2017.
However, significant obstacles
to global progress on sustainable energy remain.
While countries continue to focus on clean energy policies for electricity, policies to decarbonize heating and transport, which account for 80% of global energy use, remain neglected
