U.
S.
Energy Secretary Rick Perry said recently that Westinghouse, which filed for bankruptcy a year ago, is now ready to start building nuclear reactors
in India.
The agreement to build the reactors announced in 2016 was part of a U.
S.
-India civilian nuclear deal signed in 2008 and was the result of
a decade of diplomatic effort.
Speaking after a meeting with India's oil and gas minister, Dharmendra Pradhan, Rick Perry said, "They (Westinghouse) have really had some challenges
in business practice in the past.
”
Japan's Toshiba-owned Westinghouse Electric will soon be formally acquired by a subsidiary of Canada's Brookfield Asset Management, one of the world's leading suppliers of nuclear fuel and offering multiple forms of service
to 80 percent of the world's 450 commercial reactors, Reuters reported.
Rick Perry and Pradhan issued a joint statement "reaffirming their strong commitment to
the early and full implementation of the civil nuclear partnership, including the Westinghouse Civil Nuclear Program.
" ”
The two sides also said that the two countries will deepen cooperation
in areas such as oil and gas, electricity, renewable energy and coal.
"In order to achieve the common goal of providing a stronger business orientation for our energy cooperation, Indian companies are increasingly investing in the United States and beginning to export oil and gas
from the United States to India," the statement said.

Pradhan said India wants to buy more U.
S.
crude
at a reasonable price.
In addition, India has asked U.

companies to participate in India's Strategic Petroleum Reserve project
