Recently, the research team of the National Renewable Energy Laboratory and Sandia National Laboratory has developed a collapsible, modular wind turbine impeller
known as a "segmented ultralight deformation wind wheel".
Wind turbines with this design can be used in equipment under adverse weather conditions, self-protection functions, and can also be applied to offshore large-scale power generation wind turbine turbines
.
At present, the latest American wind turbines generate electricity in the range of one to two megawatts, blades about 50 meters long, the largest is only 80 meters, and the newly developed "segmented ultra-light deformation wind wheel" wind turbine blades up to 200 meters, the new blades can be folded up in dangerous weather conditions, and can automatically all be put away in hurricanes, minimizing the influencing factors
.
At the same time, the blades using this design use the best materials and advanced technologies available, and can achieve weight reduction while achieving maximum blade length, and have an adaptable design
to cope with severe weather.
However, conventional wind turbines with ultra-long blade designs cannot withstand the strength of the huge wind from the sea surface and are in danger of
being destroyed.
