The UK oil and gas industry must create 10,000 new jobs by 2025
OPITO urged the oil and gas industry to support the new skills strategy to safeguard jobs and improve digital transformation capabilities, noting that more than 40,000 new employees will need to be recruited to join the industry
during this period.
The report anticipates that these positions will span areas such as
data science, data analytics, robotics, change management, and remote operations.
OPITO also expects about 80,000 workers in the oil and gas industry to retire or leave for
other reasons by 2035.
OPITO noted the need for closer collaboration between industry and training providers to upskill the workforce and ensure effective competition with other sectors for the best candidates
.
OPITO has recommended that the UK government should implement a new skills strategy to ensure that the oil and gas industry is effectively responsive to future talent needs and job
security.
