The UK government will announce its largest renewable energy plan in the near future, hoping to build enough additional offshore wind capacity to power
around 8 million homes.
Under the so-called Contract for Difference (CfD) scheme, eligible projects are guaranteed the lowest price at which electricity can be sold, while renewable energy generators bid on CFDs in a round of auctions
.
The plan is part of the UK's plan to reduce emissions ahead of
the UN Climate Change Conference or COP26 in Scotland in November.
The government said the latest round offered £200 million to support offshore wind projects and £55 million for emerging renewable technologies
.
"The new plan made today .
