Completed drawings of two new European pressurized water-type reactors expected to be built at the Hinkley Point nuclear power plant in southwest England
On July 28, EDF, a major French energy company, held a shareholders' meeting to recognize the UK's plans
to build a new nuclear power plant for the first time in 20 years.
However, after the announcement, the British government also said that it would make a final decision
this autumn after a detailed review of the plan.
In 2013, they jointly launched a plan to build two new European pressurized water reactors (EPRs)
at Hinkley Point nuclear power station in southwest England for £18 billion.
Last year, China's state-owned company General Nuclear Power Corporation (CGN) decided to take a one-third
stake in it.
But there are also concerns in the industry that EDF could go bankrupt, and the company's board of directors is divided between two sides
.
Relevant people said that on the board of directors, 10 people were in favor and 7 people were against
.
One member of the Board resigned
before the meeting against the plan.
After EDF's decision, Prime Minister Greg Clark, the UK's commercial energy industry strategy, said: "The government will carefully explore the development of this business and make a decision
this autumn.
" "In terms of construction implementation, it is necessary to have Prime Minister Theresa May's approval
.
It is reported that after the Sizewell B nuclear power plant began operation in 1995, there has been no new atomic furnace
in the UK.
The new atomic furnace at Hinkley Point is scheduled to start commissioning
in 2025.
