The Ugandan government has reportedly signed an agreement with XSABO Group to build a 20MW solar power plant in Kabulasoke, Gomba district, to tackle the challenge
of electricity shortages in rural communities.
The Vice President said Uganda still faces the challenge of industrial energy shortages, which have weakened the development of
industrialization.
He also said that even if the Karuma hydropower project and the Isemba dam project are completed, rural communities will not be able to get effective services, but the solar power project will bridge this gap
.
Finally, he added, the Pilot Power Park in Kabulasoke will be the largest solar power park
in East and Central Africa.
Uganda will serve as a model
for consolidating itself as a bastion of clean and renewable energy in East and Central Africa.
