On August 5, the multi-parameter early warning system of thermal runaway of energy storage power station developed by Jiangsu Electric Power Research Institute was put into operation
in Nanjing Jiangbei Energy Storage Power Station.
The system innovatively uses the sound signature recognition of battery safety valve opening, optical feature recognition of gas-liquid spillage and thermal runaway characteristic gas detection technology to achieve highly sensitive identification and early warning of battery fire hazards, and greatly improves the safe operation level of
electrochemical energy storage power station.
The thermal runaway multi-parameter early warning system of energy storage power station is composed of sound sensor, optical sensor, gas sensor and background early warning system, which can monitor the abnormal sound of the battery safety valve in the cabin in real time through the acoustic sensor arranged on the roof of the energy storage power station, identify the leakage of gasified electrolyte through the optical sensors arranged at both ends of the cabin, and monitor the gas concentration
of the thermal runaway characteristics of the battery in real time through the gas sensor.
Once abnormal sound, optical or gas signals are detected in the cabin, the system will automatically start the multi-parameter early warning and identification procedure, and quickly enter the automatic fire alarm and fire linkage control state
.
According to reports, the development and application of thermal runaway early warning technology for energy storage power stations have mainly experienced two stages: one is the traditional fire warning technology represented by smoke sense and temperature sense, and there are problems such as lagging response; The second is the characteristic gas early warning technology represented by the identification of thermal runaway gas production such as hydrogen and carbon monoxide, which has accurate identification and high reliability, but the timeliness of early warning is unstable
.
Due to the rapid heat production and rapid fire spread of batteries in energy storage power stations, the earlier and more accurate the early characteristics of thermal runaway, the greater the probability of successfully containing power station fire
accidents.
In June 2021, Jiangsu Electric Power Research Institute proposed a multi-parameter early warning method based on the characteristic sound, light and gas signals of thermal runaway to lay a foundation
for accurate early warning of fire hazards in energy storage power stations.
