NTPC, India's largest power generation company, is planning to build a large-scale solar power park
in the west of the country.
NTPC Chairman and General Manager recently said in an interview with the media that the company is looking for sites
to set up solar power parks in Gujarat and Rajasthan.
While the scale of the planned solar park in Gujarat has been completed, the company has yet to determine the scale
of the project in Rajasthan.
The company expects to build a 5 GW solar farm
in the Kutch district of Gujarat.
The total investment in the project is about $2.
8 billion, and NTPC plans to implement the project
in cooperation with other companies.
Kutch is already home to the Charanka solar project, India's first solar power park that was once the largest in Asia
.
Gujarat and Rajasthan are very sensible choices
that NTPC offers for this large-scale solar power park.
Both states are pioneers in solar development, and successive governments have been very supportive of the industry
.
In addition, given that several gigawatts of renewable energy capacity are already operating in the state, the necessary transmission and distribution infrastructure is already in place and more is expected in the coming years
.
These two states are also ahead of all other states
in terms of tax rates.
The minimum tariff of Rs 2.
44/kWh for solar power projects in India has been implemented
in Gujarat and Rajasthan.
Gujarat's 5 gigawatt solar park will be NTPC's largest single power station
in the renewable energy sector.
Once operational, it will also be the company's largest power plant and the largest solar farm
in India.
In Dholera, Gujarat and Ladakh each have a 5 gigawatt solar park scheme
.
These solar parks are part of NTPC's 2032 Enterprise Plan, which aims to have the company's renewable energy account for 28.
5%
of the company's installed capacity by 2032.
To achieve this, NTPC has set a target of
30 gigawatts of solar power.
In addition, 5 GW of hydropower and 2 GW of other renewable energy generation capacity
are included.
