According to reports, Aecom, the world's leading architecture and design company, will build a SpaceX hyperloop test track to help Musk achieve his goal
of building a capsule high-speed rail.
Michael Burke, chairman and CEO of Aecom, said in a statement: "Aecom has designed and built some of the world's finest transportation systems, so we are well aware of the implications of developing SpaceX's hyperloop to greatly enrich the way
people move around cities, countries and continents.
”
The test track, which is about a mile long, will be built inside
SpaceX's headquarters in Hawthorne, California.
SpaceX declined to disclose the cost of construction, but Aecom provided some clues:
The test track is a 6-foot diameter steel pipeline that also includes a non-magnetic suborbit built near SpaceX's headquarters in Hawthorne, California, about a mile
long.
The track will be built on the ground and will serve as a vacuum-sealed high-speed test ground, and SpaceX is inviting teams to participate in a design competition, and designing a prototype cabin is part of the competition, and the track will be used as a test ground
for the competition.
”
The competition, which will take place Jan.
28-29 at Texas A&M University, will see thousands of students and engineers team up to design capsules that can travel at subsonic speeds inside vacuum tubes
.
The winner will have the opportunity to build a full-size cabin based on a model of their own design, which will be tested
this summer on a test track built by Aecom.
