Saudi Arabia's Ministry of Energy has announced a shortlist
of bids received from developers to participate in the country's Phase III renewable energy projects.
Phase III includes four solar PV projects with a total installed capacity of 1.
2GW.
The third phase is divided into two categories – Category A includes 120 MW Wadi Ad Dawasir and 80 MW Layla Solar Projects – and Category B includes 700 MW Ar Rass and 300 MW Saad Solar Projects, as shown below:
Prior to shortlisting, all bids were evaluated to ensure they met the technical and commercial criteria
for a Request for Proposals (RfP).
The Ministry expects to conclude commercial and financial closures
shortly.
Each of these four projects is obliged to meet the relevant requirements of local capacity and government procurement bureau with the aim of increasing the added value contribution
of products and services to the national economy.
The successful bidder will enter into a 25-year PPA
with Saudi Power Purchasing Company (SPPC) as offtaker.
Saudi Arabia's Ministry of Energy aims to achieve key economic goals
by reducing fossil fuel consumption used for power generation.
It is also working closely with the international private sector to gain experience and achieve the goals of the renewable energy sector, which is at the heart of
Saudi Vision 2030.
In January 2020, the ministry published the Eligibility Requirements (RfQ)
for four solar projects with a cumulative capacity of 1.
2 GW.
Saudi Arabia's Renewable Energy Project Development Office (REPDO) has published a list of prequalified companies that will participate in the third phase of the 1.
2 GW total solar capacity tender
in March 2020.
