Gibraltar's First Minister Fabian Picardo said a few days ago that he will fully support the Quantum submarine cable system connecting Asia and the United States through the Mediterranean, adding that the government is interested in landing the cable in Gibraltar
.
Nasos Ktorides, CEO of Quantum Cable, revealed that the company is in discussions with Gibraltar government officials to build a data center to support Quantum Cable landings
located at both ends of Gibraltar and Cyprus.
"As the project developer of the ultra-fast submarine data cable, which is in its mature phase and on schedule, we welcome discussions
with the Government of Gibraltar and all stakeholders interested in participating along the way," Ktorides said.

It is reported that the Quantum Cable will connect Cyprus with Israel and Greece (landing in Crete and Attica) and further extend to Italy, France and Bilbao (Spain), where it will be interconnected with the MAREA submarine cable with a transmission capacity of 160 Tbps, extending 6,600 kilometers across the Atlantic Ocean to Virginia (USA).
Quantum Cable, which also has a capacity of up to 160Tbps and costs about $200 million, is expected to be commercially operational
by October 2020.
