A new power interconnection between Germany and the Netherlands has been put into operation, which will increase the transmission capacity between the two countries by 750 megawatts
.
The power interconnection between Germany and the Netherlands is in operation
Grid operators TenneT and Amprion said they also plan to launch a second interconnection
line in November.
The two circuits of the 380 kV overhead power line between Duttingchem, the Netherlands, and Vesel, Germany, will increase transmission capacity by 2 GW, allowing more surplus renewable energy in Germany to flow into the Dutch grid
.
The Netherlands is currently Germany's largest importer of extra electricity, with 12.
7 terawatt-hours of electricity already flowing into the grid
this year.
The new power interconnection is one of three interconnections coming online in the EU this winter and is expected to add 3 GW
to transmission capacity in Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg.
Other new power interconnections include a 700 MW submarine cable connecting the Netherlands with Denmark and a 1 GW cable line
between Belgium and the UK.
