Using extrusion blowing technology, the blow molding specialists at Kautex Maschinenbau have successfully produced a high- volume polyamide liner for use in hydrogen pressure vessels

Overcoming the 'difficult blow molding' pain points of polyamides

“Producing a pad of this size from polyamide is a major challenge

Composite pressure vessel liners need to adapt to harsh working environments
Kautex has been developing composite pressure vessels (CPVs) for a variety of applications including hydrogen, natural gas and LPG for some time
.
The tank consists of a thermoplastic liner, a hub connecting the valve, and filament winding for mechanical strength
.
Absorbs gas, surrounds and seals the contents from the outside
.
The lining is also subject to high mechanical stress and is able to accommodate temperatures ranging from -60°C to +120°C
.
Now Kautex is working with a plastics manufacturer to develop a hydrogen container lining solution that enables the blow molding process to produce industrial use for the first time
.
.
"The size of the liner that we are currently able to produce is just the beginning
.
We believe that in the future we will also be able to use this method to produce large size hydrogen pressure vessel liners
, " Abdellah said

It is expected to make hydrogen storage systems economical and environmentally friendly
It is expected to make hydrogen storage systems economical and environmentally friendlyThe technology developed by Kautex for the production of high-capacity hydrogen container liners means that a cost-effective solution that meets transport and infrastructure requirements is on the horizon
.
.
Experts have long argued that relying on battery technology alone to solve future transportation problems will not achieve the long-term goal of making transportation as carbon-neutral as possible
.
Due to high production costs and lack of infrastructure, the application of fuel cell technology in passenger cars does not appear to be economically viable
.
But hydrogen drive and production technologies have been successfully implemented in other areas
.
Industries such as heavy cargo transport, local public transport, shipbuilding and the aircraft industry are very interested in hydrogen-powered technologies
.
In these areas, the main demand is for safe , lightweight and leak-proof tank systems
.
Composite high-pressure hydrogen containers are not only significantly lighter than steel tanks, they are also completely corrosion-resistant
