Ooredoo Maldives has announced the signing of an agreement to invest in extending the PEACE cable
.
It is reported that the main purpose of this move is to connect this new international submarine cable PEACE to the Maldives and land in Kulhudhufushi to achieve diversified development of traffic
.
PEACE is a 12,000-kilometer-long submarine cable system built by Huawei Marine connecting Pakistan, Djibouti, Kenya, Egypt, and France
.
The project was completed in two phases, the first being connected to Pakistan
via a landing site in France.
The second phase extends south to South Africa through the Indian Ocean, with a total length of 15,000 kilometers
.
According to the plan, the PEACE system will be operational in the first quarter of 2022, while the extension line connecting the Maldives is expected to be completed
in 2023.
With the successful landing of the PEACE cable, the northern part of the Maldives will become the gateway to East and West, providing opportunities
for hyperscale services and Kulhudhufushi colocation data center facilities.
