According to MENAFN news on May 16, the Houston-based oilfield services company Baker Hughes released weekly data showing that the number of drilling rigs operated in the United States increased by 5 this week, reaching 453 each year.
These operating rigs include 352 operating in oil fields in the United States, an increase of 8 from the previous week; 100 natural gas rigs, a decrease of 3 from the previous week; and one other rig, a decrease of 1 from the previous week.
The 453 rigs include 437 land rigs, 3 more than last week; 1 inland rig was not affected last week; and 15 offshore rigs, 2 more than last week.
Among them, there are 410 horizontal drilling rigs, 15 vertical drilling rigs and 28 directional drilling rigs.

Rise seen in number of operating US drilling rigs this week
May 14 the weekly figures issued by Houston-based oilfield services firm Baker Hughes showed that the number of operating drilling rigs in the United States climbed five to 453 rigs in the present week, a rise by 114 annually.
These operating drilling rigs comprised 352 oil rigs functioning in the US oil fields, a rise by eight from the prior week; 100 gas drilling rigs, a drop by three from the prior week; and one miscellaneous rigs, a decrease by one from the past week.
The 453 rigs comprised 437 land drilling rigs, a rise by three from the past week; one inland water rig, unaffected from the past week; and 15 offshore drilling rigs, a rise by two from the past week.
Amongst them, 410 are horizontal drilling rigs, 15 are vertical drilling rigs and 28 are directional drilling rigs.
