NMRD, a subsidiary of utility PNM Resources and American Electric Company, announced it will build two 50-megawatt solar projects in New Mexico to support electricity demand
at Facebook's facilities.
Last week, PNM Resources' New Mexico utility, PNM, received approval from the New Mexico Public Regulatory Commission (NMPRC) to purchase this from two projects.
One generation in order to continue to power 100% renewable energy for
Facebook's data center in New Mexico.
It is understood that the first facility is expected to be operational by the end of 2019, followed by the second facility
in June 2020.
Each plant will require an investment of $70 million and is expected to create about 200 construction jobs
.
"Through these two new projects, together with PNM, we will bring 396MW of new wind and solar projects that will help build a greener grid and bring more renewable energy and investment
to New Mexico," Facebook's head of global energy said.
We are grateful to New Mexico for its supportiveness in enabling us to access this amount of renewable energy
so quickly.
