Focusing on key areas and major projects of oil and gas, the Drilling and Completion Engineering Center focuses on scientific and technological research, achievement transformation and industrial application, breaks through a number of key core technologies such as high-efficiency leakage plugging materials, deepens a number of basic theoretical understandings such as supercritical carbon dioxide and resonant rock breaking, develops a number of major core technologies and equipment such as passive magnetic guided drilling systems, realizes the large-scale industrial application of new technologies such as continuous pipe and fine pressure control, and efficiently supports the speed and quality improvement of deep wells and ultra-deep wells, and the efficiency and production improvement of shale gas horizontal wells

The drilling and completion engineering center also focuses on key areas such as deep, low permeability, unconventional oil and gas resources and underground reservoir construction, and new energy business development, strengthens the supply of major equipment and key core technologies, leads 10 national/group key core technology research, undertakes 94 national projects such as the National Oil and Gas Special Project and the National Natural Science Foundation of China, forms 101 national/provincial and ministerial major scientific and technological achievements, and has won 2 second prizes of national technological invention and 82 provincial and ministerial science and technology awards, which has strongly supported Tarim Deep and National key construction projects such as Sichuan-Chongqing shale gas and underground gas storage have played a technical supporting role
in promoting breakthroughs in the development of deep, deepwater and unconventional oil and gas benefits in China.

In the next step, the drilling and completion engineering center will focus on building joint innovation research projects, achievement transformation and application projects, organizational system optimization projects, and management system improvement projects, focusing on cohesion and construction, optimizing resource allocation, upgrading operation modes, accelerating achievement cultivation and industrial transformation, cultivating high-end talent teams, and improving supporting mechanisms, etc.
