According to Lithuanian grid system operator Litgrid, the Lithuanian-Swedish submarine cable NordBalt will suspend operations for 2 and a half months to complete the replacement
of land cable connectors.
It is reported that in February 2016, the Lithuanian-Swedish submarine cable NordBalt, with a transmission capacity of 700 MW, was officially put into commercial use
.
However, NordBalt submarine cable operations are often disrupted
due to problems with land cable glands.
Therefore, for smooth repairs, from August 16 to October 28, 2018, the submarine cable will be suspended and the operator will replace
22 cable glands in Lithuania and 98 cable glands in Sweden respectively.
According to statistics, since the system was put into production, there have been 31 failures, of which 12 faults are caused
by cable joint problems.
Litgrid said the stable operation of NordBalt, an undersea cable, will determine long-term price stability and lower power transmission risks
in the market.
Experts said it was difficult to estimate the impact of repairs on electricity prices, adding that many other factors, including weather conditions, could also determine price changes
