At the recent regular meeting of the European Union's Biocidal Products Committee (BPC), the BPC made important decisions
on the approval of selected active substances and product authorization applications.
BPC agrees to approve the active substance application described below
Ozone generated from oxygen, product types PT02, PT04, PT05 and PT11;
❷ Sulphur dioxide generated from sulphur by combustion, product type PT04, mainly used for the disinfection and preservation of wine barrels;
❸ Sulphur dioxide released from sodium metabisulphite, product type PT09, mainly used for fiber, leather, rubber and polymeric material anticorrosion, to prevent the growth
of microorganisms during storage and transportation of shoe boxes.
For the following unified authorization applications for biocide products, the BPC also gave an approval resolution
❶ Biocidal products containing the active substance of hydrogen peroxide (EC number: 231-765-0, CAS Number: 7722-84-1), involving product types PT02, PT03 and PT04;
❷ Biocidal products containing Peracetic acid (EC Number: 201-186-8, CAS Number: 79-21-0) active substances, involving product types PT02 and PT04;
❸ Biocidal products containing active chlorine released from sodium hypochlorite (EC Number: 231-668-3, CAS Number: 7681-52-9) active substances, one product relates to the use of PT02, PT03 and PT04, and the other product relates to the use
of PT05 drinking water disinfectant.
In addition, BPC does not approve the active substance
Mecetronium ethyl sulphate (MES) (EC Number: 221-106-5, CAS Number: 3006-10-8), product type PT01
.
❷ Because BPC believes that there is insufficient evidence to determine whether the substance is endocrine disruptive and bioaccumulative.
EU officials will update the above active substance approval and product authorization application approval decisions
in the ECHA database as soon as possible.
In addition, the next regular meeting of the BPC is expected to be held
in November 2022.
