The second phase of the marine survey of the IRIS submarine cable system, which aims to connect Iceland and Ireland, has now been completed

Manufacturing of cables and equipment has begun at SubCom's manufacturing headquarters in Newington (New Hampshire, USA), with major cable installation operations scheduled for summer 2022, and testing of the system currently scheduled for fall 2022

It is expected that by the end of 2022, the submarine cable system will enter commercial service, and the IRIS system is designed as a 6-fiber pair with a total system capacity of 108Tbps, each transmitting 18Tbps

IRIS is approximately 1,750 kilometres long and will connect Thorlakshofn in Iceland with Ballyloughane Strand
in Galway, Ireland.
