Icelandic internet connectivity provider Farice and New Jersey-based submarine cable provider SubCom announced that contracts for the supply and installation of IRIS submarine cable systems designed to connect Iceland and Ireland are now in effect

Farice has completed a Desktop Study (DTS) and Marine Survey of Ireland's continental shelf and will complete the remainder of its survey of Iceland in 2021

Cable and equipment manufacturing will take place in 2021/2022 at SubCom in Newton (New Hampshire, USA), with major cable installation work scheduled for summer 2022
.
The IRIS submarine cable system, which is approximately 1,700 km long, will connect Morvik in Iceland and Galway, Ireland, with a design capacity of 108Tbps, and is expected to be commercially operational
by the end of 2022.
