Lebanese operator Ogero said the India-Middle East-Western Europe (IMEWE) submarine cable that connects Lebanon to the outside world is undergoing maintenance but will not cause significant disruption
to users.
The India-Middle East-Western Europe submarine cable enters normal maintenance
Ogero CEO Imad Kreidieh said scheduled maintenance typically takes four to five days
.
The IMEWE submarine cable is a high-capacity submarine fibre optic system that connects internet and communication systems in India and Europe to Europe
via the Middle East.
However, the Daily Star said the complaint about slower-than-normal internet speeds in Beirut had nothing to do with
maintenance.
Kreidieh said the internet is now just below 80 percent capacity, noting that Ogero has taken all necessary measures to prevent users from experiencing problems
during maintenance.
