German energy giant RWE recently won a 17.
1 MW project
in its hometown of onshore wind capacity tender.
The developer said earlier this week that the subsidy, issued by Germany's Federal Network Agency, involves the Sanbostel-Bevern wind power project
in the Rothenburg region of Lower Saxony.
Construction is expected to begin next year
.
The wind farm will be equipped with four 5.
7 MW turbines
made by domestic manufacturer Nordex.
Three of the machines will be owned by RWE, while the fourth will be installed by the company, but will be owned
by local residents in the same location.
Once up and running, the plant will be able to generate enough electricity to power more than 15,500 homes
.
Currently, RWE operates more than 550 MW of wind farms in Germany and is working to add more
.
"From 2020 to 2022, we plan to invest around EUR 1 billion on a net basis to expand our renewable energy portfolio in Germany", explains
