The French government has agreed to increase support for the deployment of THD in domestic fiber networks to 3.
57 billion euros
.
According to the original plan, the total cost of the THD project was about $20 billion, of which 7 billion euros were for densely populated areas and the rest for sparsely populated areas
.
Of this, the state will provide 3 billion euros of support
to local authorities (departments and regions).
It should be noted that under the France Relance project, the government will provide 570 million euros in additional funds for the deployment of fiber optics in rural areas, of which 420 million euros will be allocated to public networks (RIPs)
that have not yet received government subsidies.
The France Reliance program is part of the Tres-Haut Debit (THD) project, which aims to provide ultra-high-speed broadband service (> 30Mbps)
to 100% of the French population by 2022.
To achieve this, the country will be divided into "two steps"
.
On the one hand, in densely populated areas, accounting for about 57% of the population, operators deploy fiber with their own funds and get a quick return on investment
.
On the other hand, in sparsely populated areas, which account for 43% of the population, local communities must establish public networks (RIPs), which are jointly funded
by local communities as well as operators.
