Hellenic Cables, a subsidiary of Belgium's Cenergy Holdings, said the 178-kilometer-long submarine connection cable, partly laid underground, is the first submarine interconnection system between Crete and mainland Greece, and the world's longest submarine high-voltage alternating current (HVAC) cable, installed at a depth of no more than 1,000 m
.
Hellenic Cables is responsible for the design, supply and installation
of 150 kV composite submarine and underground cable systems.
Italian cable supplier Prysmann was also involved in supplying 135 km of HVAC cable systems
