The Southern Atlantic Submarine Cable System (SACS), the first transatlantic broadband submarine cable in the southern hemisphere, will begin carrying its first commercial traffic within the next three months, providing a more direct and low-latency route
between South Africa and other African markets and the United States.

António Nunes, CEO of Angola Cable, the main proponent of Sacs cables, said the system has been built and is starting to be tested
    .

According to reports, the system uses 100Gbit/s dense wavelength division multiplexing technology, with a design capacity of 40Tbit/s, composed of 4 pairs of optical fibers, connecting Luanda, Angola and Fortaleza, Brazil, with a total length of 6300 kilometers
    .
Then via Fortaleza, the system will also connect Angola with a 6,300km SACS cable connecting Miami in the United States to São Paulo
    , Brazil.
From there, it connects to the Monet submarine cable system
between Miami, the United States, and São Paulo, Brazil.

Nunes said the new path will reduce wait times or network latency between Africa and Brazil, Africa and the United States
    .
Until now, for example, internet traffic between Brazil and South Africa had to cross Europe, cross the North Atlantic to the United States, and then hop on a fiber-optic cable system that connects South America
    .
There would also be a ring in the Atlantic, providing an alternative route
    for the North Atlantic system.

It is expected that the commissioning of the Sacs submarine cable system will be completed by the end of July or early August
    .
"One of the issues we were facing was that there was some delay in building the Fortaleza data center, so we needed a way to start deploying services
on the Sacs system before the data center was ready," Nunes said.
    No later than September
