IOX Cable, a subsidiary of INDOI Group, revealed that the first phase of the IOX submarine cable system, which aims to connect South Africa and India, is scheduled to be operational
in the second half of 2019.
It is reported that the first phase of the IOX submarine cable system project will connect La Cambuse in Mauritius to the Grand Baie outside the Rodrigues autonomous island to Puducherry, India, and there are future connection plans
with Sri Lanka.
The next phase is to connect La Cambuse in Mauritius with East London in South Africa, possibly making landfalls
on Madagascar and the French overseas territory of Reunion.
Future plans also include cable connections from Mauritius to Seychelles and Mombasa (Kenya), as well as to Europe
via Egypt.
It is reported that the submarine path survey of the submarine cable system was launched in Mauritius in April this year, followed by Rodrigues and South Africa
.
The 8,850-kilometre-long submarine cable system, built by Alcatel Submarine Network ASN, has a design capacity of 13Tbps per fiber pair and will provide an ultimate design capacity
of more than 52Tbps.
